Branch & Unit 85 News (From newest to oldest) 2/12/18. Plans are still being finalized for our upcoming meeting on Sunday, 18 Feb. Our Regional President Southwest (RPSW), Shipmate Bruce Davis will be there along with the FRA Auxiliary RPSW, Nadine Braudaway and possibly the RVPSW, Rachelle Caston. After the meeting we will be serving a delicious buffet lunch. We certainly hope that you can make it. We also intend to show a Power Point presentation sometime during this meeting. It will graphically illustrate Branch 85 membership trends over the years and will outline our membership goals for 2018. For the past several weeks we have also been scanning branch records into electronic form. To date we have scanned over 800 documents and still have many more to scan. It’s a big job but there are many benefits to this, including the ability to quickly and easily search through all of our records, as well as the ability to determine membership trends. 1/19/18. Our 1st monthly meeting of the new year will be this coming Sunday, the 21st of January at 1400. We would like to start the year with a good turnout and to continue that trend for the rest of the year. Our modest goal is to have at least a dozen shipmates at each Branch meeting and a like number of spouses and relatives attending the Auxiliary (LAFRA) Unit meeting. We have a number of important goals and plans for this year. They include: (1) Make a concerted effort to increase our membership and meeting attendance. (2) Invite another shipmate and spouse or family member to the meeting. (3) Make repairs and improvements to our Branch Home and make it more comfortable and attractive. (4) Continue enhancements to this Website. (5) Improve the signage to the front (and back) of our Branch Home, as well as advertise in local newspapers and other venues. (6) Improve our outreach and visibility by being more active in the community. If you have never been to any of our meetings or it has been a long time, please come. I promise you will enjoy it. We recognize that some of you may be too far away to come on a regular basis. But if you can come at least a few times per year we would love to see you. We also recognize that a few of you may have let your membership lapse for one reason or another. You don't have to be a current member to come to the meeting. Maybe you're just curious and want to check us out before you make a decision. That's OK. We can re-instate you very easily by just filling out a new application with your membership dues and sending it to FRA National Headquarters. Of course, this would also be a great opportunity to tell us a little bit about your Navy, Marine Corp or Coast Guard service; i.e., "sea stories".
